The girls in the kitchen wonder what really happened between the serious young man and his father, and whether he has come now because he wants to take over the hotel. Amanda has put her father on ice until he keeps his part of the deal and acquits Morten, but then she suddenly discovers a secret that can solve the problem completely without the help of wholesaler Madsen. Mrs. Aurland is distraught over her relationship with actor Weyse and decides instead to seduce her husband.
