His reign ended when Spanish Conquistador Francisco Pizarro murdered him and brought the Inca civilization to an end. But the emperor obtained great power and wealth, even in death. His body was mummified in a sacred ritual to give him supernatural sway over the world of the living. Then, his body vanished. Archaeologists have been searching ever since.
